New black kohiki - Akira Satake Kohiki technique - (粉引）Enhancing the surface by brushing white porcelain slip onto a dark clay body, then stretching the clay to crack and distort the brush marks. The piece is gas fired and then fired again in a sagger to create a black surface. It’s completely different from traditional kohiki.
